Some Upcoming Events
Webinar this Wednesday, AERO presentation June 11, reservation for 2027 Scottish Adventure, and a Big Think article.
Dear friends,
Several people have suggested that I occasionally post Substack letters announcing upcoming events that I’m involved in that are open to the public and new articles that may be of general interest. Here is the first such letter.
This Wednesday, June 3, 12:00-1:00 pm EST. National Learning Institute Webinar
This free webinar opens with a recording of a talk I presented at a recent NLI convention, entitled The Forces That Have Brought Kids Indoors, and How We Can Get Them Out Again. This will be followed by about half an hour of facilitated Q&A/discussion, live, with me. Here is the link to register for this event.
Summary of the presentation: Over the past 75 years, multiple societal forces have combined to limit children’s free play, independence, and outdoor freedom. What are these forces—and what movements are countering them? If we want children outdoors more, we must give them the freedom to play outside with peers, without adult interference. That is the challenge.
Thursday, June 11, My Presentation at the AERO (Alternative Education Resources Organization) Conference in Manchester, NH.
This in-person conference will run from June 11-13, at St Anselm College, Manchester, NH. My presentation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 June 11. It will be a précis to my new book (to be published in September of this year), entitled Restoring Childhood: How to Set Kids Free in an Age of Anxiety. You can find out more about the conference and purchase tickets at the conference website. It would be great to see you there.
Looking Ahead. Outdoor Play the Scottish Way!
I am delighted to announce that I will be joining Rusty Keeler, Cameron Sprague, and the Stramash team on what promises to be an amazing week-long professional learning journey, exploring pioneering outdoor nurseries and play environments in Scotland, March 1-7, 2027. I’m announcing this now because this event is very likely to sell out well in advance of the start date. It will be limited to 20 participants. For more information, and to reserve your spot for this adventure, see the event website here.
New Free Brief Article Published by Big Think, in May 2026 Issue
You may enjoy this whole issue, entitled The Power of Play. My article, which you will find there, is titled What Children Learn When Adults Aren’t Around.

Please this with others who might be interested in any of these.
Happy June.
With respect and best wishes,
Peter
