Peter Gray, you are such a kindred spirit, despite my never having met you. Please enjoy this new ‘adventure.’
I send you greetings from Botswana where I am endeavoring to ‘hobble my way around the rocks in the road’, (continually placed by Zambian authorities), so that I may at last return to finish the ‘adventure’ I began there in 2022.
Hi Mr.Gray. First of all, sorry for this event. I'm a 24 year-old play enthusiast myself. I like to watch your videos and read your works, in particular the ones on education in schools as we know them (or lack of). I must say that I am impressed by the way you are treating what happened to you (instead of moaning etc you are playing with it and it's actually rewarding you). I strive to think of these alternative ways of looking at things, particularly when i'm in some type of suffering and after time I realize that the harder path makes the journey more meaningful and worthwhile. Good afternoon from Gozo, Malta.
Thanks for this wonderful piece. I like your perspective! You certainly have found the silver lining of an unfortunate event. I like how you relish in each new accomplishment. We wish you a smooth and speedy recovery.
I’m truly sorry to hear about your hip injury. It’s always tough dealing with setbacks, especially for someone as active and passionate. I’m sending loads of positive wishes your way for a smooth recovery. In the meantime, I hope this period offers you a chance to rest, and capture all those fascinating thoughts and insights you’ve shared with us. Your posts are not only a good read but also a source of inspiration. Wishing you all the best in your recovering journey and looking forward to more of reading the updates. Take care and get well very soon!
Ugh, I'm so sorry about the hip. I hope the healing goes smoothly, and you have lots of time to write down all your interesting observations for the rest of us!
Following my earlier comments, this thread has been on my
mind and I have been thinking how William Blake’s poem The Schoolboy epitomizes the situation of the ‘joy’ of learning becoming the ‘job’ of learning, once children enter the classroom.
Listen to the medical folks. I was slammed by a grocery cart, in mid July. The radigraphs were taken in early October: fractured ankle. I probably should gotten medical care in July, versus October? Now, near my birthday, I feel as if the fracture is healed. I scheduled many physical therapy sessions. I feel that I am healed. Here’s to feeling better?
I’m glad to hear the injury wasn’t more serious, although a fractured pelvis still sounds serious to me. I think I’ll try to reframe some of my struggles as small bits of progress—it’s more fun, or at least less painful, that way.
Hola Peter, aquí Belén de Argentina, leí tu libro y leo siempre tus mails, gracias por tantas reflexiones tan maravillosas, deseo que puedas recuperarte pronto!!! Gracias por permitirnos ver la vida a través de tus ojos!
I had the first signs of arthritis in 2003, and it has progressed to the stage where I can't walk at all - so your words about independence and feeling helpless resonated with me. I have to admit to some envy of your physical fitness and I'm sure, because you're that fit, that you will recover fully soon.
I have only managed to get out of my house twice in 2023 (once for my dad's funeral, once for his memorial service) and this year not at all - I can't even get down the two steps into my back garden and navigating the 10 steps up to the road from my house is something I avoid at all costs. I do the stairs just once a day.
I've just been invited to go and teach in Nigeria - wow - but of course I can't :(.
Sorry, I didn't mean to moan...I must go and find that silver lining!

You can do it!

Heal quickly and recover fully! I am sorry for your pain and inconveniences. At the same time I enjoy your thoughtful conclusions from the experience.
Get well soon sir!

I so love your ability to find the silver lining!
